Can safety shoes be worn as everyday footwear?

When I first started my job, the workshop issued two pairs of safety shoes: one all-season pair featuring steel toes and steel midsoles, and another breathable pair for summer. However, I always felt that safety shoes were incredibly durable.

Since changing shoes before and after get off work was a hassle, I simply decided to wear the all-season pair as my everyday footwear-I wore them to work, while shopping after hours, and even on weekends for park strolls or casual outings. At first, I didn't think much of it, but a few incidents later, I gradually realized that safety shoes really aren't meant to be worn casually like regular shoes.

Let me start with the first time I "learned the hard way" about wearing them this way. It was about three months into the job; I had arranged to meet a friend at a pedestrian shopping street one weekend.

Thinking the thick soles made the shoes look sturdy and stable for walking, I headed out without changing them. After walking for about three hours-traversing the entire length of the street-my feet started acting up. It began with irritation at the heel; when I looked down, I saw that the back of the shoe had rubbed against my sock, causing a red blister to form. It was both painful and itchy, making me wince in discomfort with every step.
